The government has withdrawn the petition against the Islamabad High Court's PECA ruling.

The Prime Minister has withdrawn the appeal filed in the Supreme Court against the Islamabad High Court's decision to declare Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PICA) Amendment Ordinance unconstitutional. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb has said.

"This request is dropped immediately because it violates government policy and the values essential to safeguard freedom of expression," she said.

I think Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has done the right thing.

Pakistani Society is vibrant and processive. This kind of law is not good for our society.

Prime Minister should investigate why did FIA file this petition.

The federal agency may file a petition with the Ministry of the Interior's official consent.

The appeal was submitted without the consent of the government, specifically the Ministry of the Interior, according to an FIA official.

Justice Minallah stated that the Peca ordinance was "enacted contrary to the Constitution and the fundamental liberties protected therein, including Articles 9, 14, 19, and 19-A."

"The offence under Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, to the degree that the expression 'or affects the reputation' is unconstitutional," he added.
